When you receive a Movement Assessment, you receive expertly derived knowledge about why it hurts to move or why you can’t accomplish a specific movement well, as well as a clear, well intentioned, individualized path to eliminating pain, preventing injury, moving better, and achieving your health and fitness goals.

From the moment you walk through the door, I will be continuously and intentionally looking closely and analyzing your movement through various forms of movement assessments. Depending upon your pain complaint, injury history, or particular movement you wish to improve, I will determine a specific modality of movement assessment.

What to expect during your movement assessment

Each Movement Assessment session flows a bit differently. Generally I begin by having you perform a specific natural movement such as a squat, push up, pull up, walking, running, or whatever “problem” movement for that day. This serves two purposes. I can visually see what is going on in your body. It also allows you to feel the movement in your body and self assess: does it hurt, does it feel tight or restricted, does it feel clean or clunky? This is an important part of the movement assessment. For you to gain the most understanding of your body, you must be a conscious co-participant throughout the assessment process.

I may get out the massage table to do a form of manual muscle testing called NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT); I might shoot a video of your walking or running gait which I can analyze in greater detail outside of our session; or we will begin an exploratory movement Personal Training and Coaching breakout. In most cases, towards the end of the session, I’ll have you perform the original movement to see if there is any improvement. I’ll ask, “does it feel any different?” I will choose the exercises that provide the biggest bang for your buck and have you shoot a video of me demonstrating them for your Personalized Exercise Program. I will email you a Youtube link to this video after the session.

I love to talk about the movement and want you to be as informed about your body as possible. Throughout this process, I will describe what I see: what is working, what is not working well, why it’s important, and how we will work toward improvement. Over the course of 2-4 sessions, I will deliver a Movement Assessment Report explaining the deeper cause of pain or dysfunction with a clear intentional path towards progress.

You will have a better understanding of the root causes of your pain and movement dysfunction. You will be armed with education, self knowledge, and awareness about how your body works. The information gained from each Movement Assessment is going to help you understand the value of the path we follow as well as why. Finally you will understand you! And you will feel confidence in possessing an expertly created tailor made program that will help you reach your goals.
