I came across this video yesterday on a colleague’s, Brandon LaVack of LaVack Fitness Facebook feed. It is truly an inspiring story which invoked some internal self reflection on my part.
Two questions popped into my mind.
1. What do I have that this guy, Richie Parker, doesn’t have?
2. What does he have that I don’t?
The answer to both cut to my core.
The first question isn’t as easy and comfortable as “I have arms.”
With my arms, I have baggage. What I carry, that is a bigger deal than arms, are my limitations. A perspective which can suck the energy out of life. I have excuses which hold me back from experiencing, growing, and living to my fullest potential. He does not.
What does he have that I don’t have? He has a fulfilling attitude. One that doesn’t look at his physical challenges as barriers preventing him from success. His is an attitude that sees hard work and challenge as an opportunity for movement, independence, and freedom. A pure beautiful embrace of life.
“I don’t know if there is anything that I can’t do. Just things that I haven’t done yet.” Richie Parker
After watching this video I don’t have any more excuses. Just two arms to reach out and embrace life fully. What a beautiful man. Thank you Richie Parker for some serious perspective.
